draft Lists, comparing them with his own, and at my request, most kindly consented to add notes, which should "illustrate" some of the older names, and identify the later ones. This task he has accomplished in a manner which adds infinite value to such a work as this. His notes ear-mark with the "nod" of historical truth the names of a great number of the different holders of the offices referred to. Besides Mr. Wynne's valuable personal assistance, his splendid collection[1] has been a source of much help. The great collection at Mostyn Hall[2] was also most kindly thrown open to me at all times by Lord Mostyn, and much valuable information was obtained therefrom, and especially from the "Vaughan" and "Mostyn" volumes of correspondence, &c.

No compilation, such as this, is entitled to public confidence unless every source from which information has been derived is mentioned without reserve. The following is therefore inserted as a list of the original public MSS. and documents consulted:—
