the ultimate goal we recognise, the kingdom of heaven which is within us, which to realise on earth is the object of all our striving. But we know too that it is remote; the lines which point to it meet at an infinite distance. It is only by the fulfilment of duty in the lesser spheres that the larger ones can become realities. The good and faithful servant is he that has been faithful over a few things. In our actual life the larger sphere is given by our country. We are Englishmen and our duty is to England.
