When the Pilgrim Hiuen Tsiang returned from his travels in India, he took up his abode in the Temple of "Great Benevolence ; " this convent had been constructed by the Emperor in honour of the Empress, Wen-te-hau. After Hiuen Tsiang's death, his disciple, Hvvui Li, composed a work which gave an account of his illustrious Master's travels ; this work when he com- pleted he buried, and refused to discover its place of concealment.
