Your letter was received on February 27th.
This Bureau, as a Federal Investigative agency, is charged with the duty of investigating violations of the laws of the United States, collecting evidence in cases in which the United States is or may be a party in interest, and performing other duties imposed upon it by law.
At the direction of President Johnson, the FBI conducted a prompt, intensive, objective and thorough investigation of the assassination of former President Kennedy, and all of the material developed by the FBI in connection with this investigation was turned over to the Warren Commission for its consideration. I can assure you that Lee Harvey Oswald was never an employee or "agent" of the FBI nor did he have any affiliation whatsoever with this Bureau.
