A colossal marble statue by Chantrey in 1835, representing Heber, vested in his episcopal robes, kneeling on a square cushion. His head is bent, his right hand is on his breast, his left grasps the top of a closed book which rests on the cushion. His coat of arms as Bishop of Calcutta is carved in front beneath the cushion. The statue was originally in St. John's Church.

Heber was consecrated second Bishop of Calcutta in 1823, and died suddenly at Trichinopoly on 3rd April 1826.

See also the inscription in the Chapel of the late Bishop's College, Sibpur, which justly commemorates him as an eager student, an accomplished writer and preacher, and a beloved teacher and friend.
