OFFICE OF THE DEAD
365

And Thou, child, shall be called the Prophet of the Most High; * for Thou shalt go before the face of the Lord, to prepare His ways:

To give knowledge of salvation to His people, * unto the remission of their sins:

Through the tender mercy of our God: * in which the Orient, from on high, hath visited us:

To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: * to direct our feet into the way of peace.

Grant them eternal rest, O Lord,* and let perpetual light shine on them.

Ant. I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in Me, though he be dead, shall live; and every one that liveth and believeth in Me shall never die.

Our Father, etc., in silence. V. And lead us not into temptation.

R. But deliver us from evil.
