It is true, that the guilty conscience of Macbeth, overpowering bis judgement, conjures up before him the accusing ghost of Banquo: but it is equally true, that his constitutional courage enables him resolutely to face this ghastly fantom of his disordered imagination:—

Lady M. Are you a man?

Macb. Ay, and a bold one, that dare look on that,
Which might appal the devil.

Lady Macb. O prpper stuff!
This is the very painting of your fear.
