The Statutes at large, from Magna Charta to the 30th Geo. IL 6 vols. fol. London. 1758. In this edition of the Statutes, the English translation of them pre- vious to Hen. VII. is the same as that in Keble and Pulton's editions. Mr. Cay attributes this translation to George Ferrers, and thus speaks of it — " It is not a good one, and the mistakes in it are very numerous and considerable. It has often been desired that a new translation should be made, but as this has been used for some ages, not only by the public in general, but even by the I'arliament, and many statutes are re-enacted in subsequent acts in the words of this translation, it seems to be too much authenticated for an editor to presume to reject it." Cay's edition of the Statutes was edited and printed with great care, of which Mr. Barrington observes : " The edition of the Statutes which I have generally made use of, is that of Mr. Cay. I do not by this pre- tend to enter into the comparative merit of this and the later editions ; but am persuaded from the great learning, as well as accuracy of the editor, that it will not easily be rendered more perfect." Abridgment of the Statutes was continued by supplements, by H. B. Cay. In 1762 a 2d ed. in 2 vols, was published, and in 1766 a supplemental volume, containing the Statutes from 11 Geo. II. to 1 Geo.
