GOV COUNTRY PxVRSON'S COMPANION; or Young Clergyman's Lawyer. 8vo. London. 1725. COVENTRY, THOMAS, and SAMUEL HUGHES. An Ana- lytical Digested Index to the Common Law Reports, from the time of lien. 111. to the commencement of the Reign of Geo. HI. ; with Tables of the Titles and names of Cases, containing the substance of above one hundred and fifty volumes. 2 vols. 8vo. London. 1728. 2 vols. Philadelphia. 1832. This Digest is very well arranged, and will answer as a pretty good substitute for the old Reports. " To render the work more extensively useful the whole of the modern matter to be found in the valuable notes to many of the Reports, has been faithfully embodied, and references have been also made to contemporaneous Reports in the Courts of Equity, and also to important recent decisions and statutes, showing the alterations which have been made in particular branches of the law." Pref. COVENTRY, T. Treatise on the Law of Common Recoveries. 12mo. London. 1820. . Mortgage Precedents. (A 3d vol. To Powell on Mortgages.) 8vo. London. 1827. . Observations on the Title to Land derived through Enclosure Acts. 8vo. London. 1827. . A Treatise on the Stamp Laws, relating to Deeds and Assurances. 8vo. London. 1833. It is thought to be too discursive, showing rather what the law ought to be than what it is. 9 L. M. 376. . Conveyancers' Evidence. 8vo. London. 1832. See Laio Library. The faults of this production are pointed out in an article in the Law Magazine, by which it appears that Mr. Coventry's legal writings, gene- rally, do not enjoy an exalted reputation. " In London his books have long since found their level, and no books could iind a lower one." 4 L. M. 420 ; 1 Leg. Exam. 153. . A New and Readable edition of Coke upon Lit- tleton, adapted to the present day. 8vo. London. 1830. Mr. Coventry has omitted such parts of Coke Littleton as he deemed antiquated, reducing the whole to a moderate sized octavo, but his read- able edition is not much read, or very highly appreciated.
