EAG printed editions with the original manuscript. Upon making this com- parison the editor says: "I have found whole lines omitted, by which the sense was frequently obscured, and sentences so altered that the meaning was wholly perverted." The translator retained the notes of ^ Chief Justice Treby, made additional references to the latest books of authority, and prefixed a life of the author. "The translation is stiff but faithful." Dyer is tiie impersonation of conciseness among reporters. In most of the Cases he omits the names of counsel, and in some does not men- tion the names of the parties. They seem to be the concise notes of a man of business, containing an accurate state of the case, with the objections and answers as shortly as conveniently could be. His vol- umes, in tliis respect, are quite the reverse of Plowden and Coke's Reports, though of equal authority. Fulbeck says, "some humors do more fancy Plowden for his fulness of argument and plain kind of proof; others do more like Dyer for his strictness and brevity. Plowden may be compared to Demosthenes, and Dyer to Phocion ; both excellent men, of whom Plutarch reporteth, that such things as were learnedly, wittily, copiously, and with admiration dilated, and delivered at large by Demosthenes, were shut up in few words, compendiously recited, and with admiration handled, by Phocion." 1 Kent's Com. 481 ; 5 Reeves' Hist.
