MAT would have us believe that all that is contained in their works originated from their own brain, like Minerva of old from the head of Jupiter. 1 Rev. Etrang. 392; N. S. (2) 18. MATHEWS, J. M. A Practical Treatise on the Law of Landlord and Tenant. 2d ed. 8vo. London. 1841. MATHEWS, J. H. A Treatise on the Doctrine of Presumption and Presumptive Evidence, as affecting the Title to Real and Personal Property. Svo. London. 1827. 1st American ed., with Notes and References to American Cases. By B. Rand. Svo. New York. 1830. Mr. Mathews is entitled (o great praise for diligence in collecting his materials, and skill and method in digesting them. The subject of Pre- sumptions, is incidentally treated of in all works upon Evidence, but not with that satisfactory fulness to be found in the above work. The author confines his Treatise to Presumptions affecting property, which he ex- plains with an ability and completeness highly commendable, and that adequately supplies the wants of the Profession, in this department of legal learning. The American editor's well known character for varied and profound professional acquirements, is a sufficient guarantee that his contributions have very much increased the value of the book. 5 A.
