Mr. Viner informs us that the Precedents in Chancery made their escape to the press clandestinely, much, indeed, to the advantage of the profes- sion, but without any regard paid to the honor of the deceased, with whom^ the same is said to have been left, upon trust and confidence only, and as a sacred depositum. Lord Hardwicke states, that the notes of cases to 1708, were taken by Mr. Pooley, and from that period by Mr. Robins, one of the ablest lawyers of his day. The volume is commonly known by the name of Finches Precedents, &;c. The cases are brietiy reported, but are of respectable authority. The case of Harkness v.
