Fifteen hundred copies of Modern Japanese Novels and the West by Donald Keene were designed, printed and bound by Clarke & Way at The Thistle Press in May, 1961. The title line was written in Japanese by Professor Peter H. Lee, and the illustrations were drawn by Koide Narashige (1887–1931) for the original edition of Tade Kuu Mushi (Some Prefer Nettles).
