SEEKING, PLEADING, ETC.
BOOK III.

2 Thy promise is my only plea,
With this I venture nigh :
Thou callest burden d souls to thee,
And such, O Lord, am I.

3 Bow d down beneath a load of sin,
By Satan sorely press'd;
By war without and fears within,
I come to thee for rest.

4 Be thou my shield and hiding-place !
That, shelter'd near thy side,
I may my fierce accuser face,
And tell him, Thou hast died.

5 Oh wond'rous love, to bleed and die,
To bear the cross and shame,
That guilty sinners, such as I,
Might plead thy gracious name.

6 "Poor tempest-tossed soul, be still,
My promised grace receive ;"
'Tis Jesus speaks—I must, I will,
I can, I do believe.

13.
Seeking the Beloved. C.

1 To those who know the Lord I speak,.
Is my Beloved near?
The Bridegroom of my soul I seek,
Oh ! when will he appear ?

2 Though once a man of grief and shame,.
Yet now he fills a throne,
And bears the greatest, sweetest name,
That earth or heaven have known.

3 Grace flies before, and love attends
His steps where'er he goes ;
Though none can see him but his friends,
And they were once his foes.

4 He speaks—obedient to his call
Our warm affections move ;
