Self-Denial
PROCEED still further, O Youth. Be not merely content with keeping your enemies, Satan, the world, and the flesh at bay, but attack them, defeat them, strike them to the ground. Gird yourself with the sword of self-denial; enter upon a holy crusade against yourself; subdue your flesh and your self-will; "be a cross to the world, as it is a cross to you." Learn to deny yourself, even lawful things, in order that you may the more readily
