That night the prayer and sacred music, which reg ularly hallowed our hour of retirement, should have been more deeply surcharged with devout gratitude tluin ever ; snatched as we had been from the devour ing flood, and from " the evil time, that snareth the sons of men, when it falleth suddenly upon them."
