LINES

ON SEEING MY NAME WRITTEN BY A YOUNG LADY IN THE SAND OF THE SEA-SHORE.

This name here drawn by Flora's hand
Portrays, alas! her mind:
The beating surf and yielding sand
Soon leave no trace behind.

But Flora's name shall still abide
In many a bosom trac'd,
Not e'en by time's destroying tide
Nor fortune's storms effac'd.
