THE FORSAKEN.
And thou art gone, and I am left
Alone in heart and feeling;
Of every hope and joy bereft,
And sadness o'er me stealing.

There seems 10 gladness on the earth,
No brightness in the sky;
I never hear the voice of mirth
Float on the breezes by.

There is no voice to tell me now
That I am loved and dear;
There is no hand to wipe away
The bitter, burning tear.

The scenes I used to gaze upon,
The flowers I loved to tend,
