ALONE WITH JESUS.
ALONE with Thee! when evening shadows falling,
With misty mantle wrap the purple hills.
Alone with Thee, when starry hosts arising,
Illume the night, which on the landscape thrills;
                Alone with Thee!

Alone with Thee, when solemn night advancing,
Folds the drear shadows in her deathly wings,
And stealing softly through the sleeping valleys,
Sweet rest and peace to many a wanderer brings;
                Alone with Thee!

Alone with Thee in weary hours of darkness,
In restless nights of sorrow, pain, or care;
Alone with Jesu in the soul's communion,
Alone with Jesu in the trance of prayer;
                Alone with Thee!
