THE LOWEST PLACE.
NOT that I may be chiefest, Lord,
But that I may obey
More closely Thy most sweet commands.
Teach me to serve, I pray.

Not that I may be honored more
Who am indeed the least,
I would the lowest place like one
Grace-bidden to the feast;

But that Thy smile, my blessed Lord,
Might reach that lowest place,
And show me, though the last and least,
The fulness of that grace.
