LINES WRITTEN ON THE ALBUM CARD OF A YOUNG LADY, BELONGING TO THE SOCIETY OF FRIENDS, WHO HAD REPEATEDLY SAID—"THOU ART NOT A FRIEND."
Come, Emma, listen to my lay,
And to my verse attend;
And tell me why thou still do'st say,
That I am not a friend?

Now I deny the imputation,
And unto thee would show,
That I deserve that appellation,
Much more than that of foe.
