But that, alas! is not the case,
And I'm compell'd to fill
This terribly vexatious space
With nonsense 'gainst my will.





TO ELIZA.
When you were here the other night,
I promised fair Eliza,
Within your Album gay to write;
But now I am grown wiser.

For as I have had information
That you at verse are clever,
I'm come to the determination,
To close your book for ever.
