My heart has fondly turn'd to thee,
And thy dear shades I've long'd to see.

But now, alas! how sadly chang'd
Are the green fields thro' which I've ranged!
And chang'd, each dear familiar spot,
For those who were, alas! are not.

Home of my youth! in deepest grief,
I sought in your dear shades relief:
But there, alas! I could not find
A solace for my woe fraught mind.

For cold neglect, and worldly care,
Pursued my wounded spirit there;
The friends, who made you dear, are dead,
And all your pow'r to charm me fled.
