ONLY A SOB
It was only a heart; but then
Did you know it was yours? When
You lightly threw it away,
Did you dream of a reckoning day?

It was only a heart; yet
I can never quite forget
How you toyed with the thing for a while
Then put it aside with a smile.

It is only a heart still—
Do with it as you will—
A heart that is broken in two,
But no longer beating for you!
