THE PINK CARNATION
'Twas only a pink carnation,
But O. how sweet and fair!
Breathing of consecration,
To a life full of wear and tear.

Soothed were the ruffled feelings,
As the words were so sweetly said,
"This is for you, my darling."
Then the Stranger passed on ahead.

The one with the pink carnation.
Grew happier step by step:
For the loving act and token.
Of the passer she could not forget.

The way to her duty seemed shorter,
When brightened by Love's little flower;
'Twas only a pink carnation,
But with it went life and power.
