Did we not hold a holy sacred sway
O'er each other's hearts and way?

But the living embers burn every one,
Lit by the Eternal Light and never one
Shall die. but reign beyond if not here;
In divine brightness in the Kingdom near.

'Twas no fond foolishness and idle sport,
But the Infinite into which, we two were dipped
At the self-same time and tuned to sing one glorious song
Of love. unboundless and unbounding long.

It was and still is yet of value more than gold,
But like the best of metals
Into the furnace heat of trial and trouble come,
To perfect. it must take its lengthened run.
