JUST YOU AND I
We could have been so happy,
Just you and I;
But the sad days followed glad days,
And the cares rolled by.

We could have been so cheery,
Just you and I,
But darkness chased the sunshine,
And the tears came to our eyes.

We could have been so gladsome,
Just you and I,
But honor took the place of love
And made hearts sigh,

We could have been so loving
Just you and I;
But the world its barrier placed
And we could not try.

We could have been together
Just you and I;
But the world and honor too
Could not stop me loving you,
Hear heart's reply.
