Surfacing Top of a Bracket
This is a simple and common milling operation. The cast iron bracket is supported on an arbor that rests on V blocks at each end. Bolts and straps hold the arbor and V blocks in place, and teh projecting portions of the bracket are supported by small jack screws. As the full width of the surface is milled at one cut, the arm braces are used to support the arbor. Also, the cutter is placed as near the nose of the spindle as the work allows.
Because of width of cut, a plain milling cutter with spiral teeth and 6 inch face and 234 inch diameter, is used.
