  1. The bridegroom, Colonel William Stanhope, was afterwards created Earl of Harrington. The bride was the daughter of Colonel Edward Griffith, one of the clerk-comptrollers of the Board of Green Cloth, by Elizabeth, daughter of Dr Thomas Lawrence, first physician to Queen Anne. The children of this marriage were two sons (twins), one of whom survived, namely, William, second Earl of Harrington.
