Save me! O save! and comfort bring.

Remember what my ransom cost ;

Let not my dear-bought soul be lost,

In storms of guilty terrors tost.

In search of me why feel such pain ;

Why on Thy cross such pangs sustain,

If now those sufferings must be vain?

Avenging Judge, Whom all obey,

Cancel my debt, too great to pay,

Before the sad accounting day.

O’erwhelmed, oppressed with doubts and fears,

Their load my soul in anguish bears;

I sigh, I weep—accept my tears.

Thou, Who wast moved at Mary’s grief,

Who didst absolve the dying thief,

Dost bid me hope, O grant relief.
