NEIGHBOURS.

I.

I’ve a neighbour o’er the way,
And I see at close of day
How her bright lamp flings a ray
O’er my path, and seems to say,
“Love is not so far away—
Watch and pray."

II.

Do I read the lesson right?
God is love and Christ is light.
Heaven and earth in them unite—
So my heart grows strong and bright,
And my soul is mailed in might,
When I see my neighbour’s light
In the night.
