S. r. 11. 7 c. 14, for tie due EletlioH of Knights of IRST, Whereas in the Parliament hoiden at7 H -4- c - >S> Weftmhiflcr, the Seventh Year of the Reign of 8 Ht 6 ' c ' 7> our faid Lord the King, there was ordained and eftablifhed by a Statute for the Prefervation of tn.e Liberties and Franchifes of the Election of the Knights of the Shire ufed through the Realm, a certain Form and Manner of the Election of fuch Knights, as in the faid Statute more fully is con- tained ; (2) and forafmuch as in the fame Statute no Penalty was ordained or limited in fpecial upon the Sheriffs of the Counties, if they make any Re- turns to the contrary o. the fame Statute ;" ' (3) it is ordained and ftabliihed, That the Juftices af- figned to take Aflifes, fhall have Power to inquire in their Seflions of Aflifes of fuch Returns made ; (4) and if it be found by Inqueft, and due Examination before the fa:, e Juftices, that any fuch Sheriff hath made, or hereafter make, any Return contrary to the Tenor of the faid Statute, that then the fame Sheriff fhall incur the Penalty of One hundred Pounds to be 1 H. 5. c. t, paid to our Lord the King ; (5) and moreover, that 6 H " ' the Knights of the Counties fo unduly returned, ^ fhall lofe their Wages of the Parliament, of ol ' ' Time accuftomed.' < laAnn. c. 23. 12 Ann. flat.
