The Statute, intituled, Assisa Panis & Cervisiæ, made Anno 51 Hen. III. Stat. 1. and Anno Dom. 1266.

The Prices of Bread and Ale shall be according to the Prices of Corn.[1]

Repealed as to the Assise of Bread, by 8 Annæ, c. 18. stat 1.The King to all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting. We have seen certain Ordinances of the Assise of Bread and Ale, and of the making of Money and Measures, made in the Times of our progenitors, sometimes Kings of England, in these Words:[2] When a Quarter of Wheat is sold for xii d. then Wastel Bread of a Farthing shall weigh vi l. and xvi s. But Bread Cocket of a Farthing of the same Corn and Bultel, shall weigh more than Wastel by ii s. (2) And Cocket Bread made of Corn of lower Price, shall weigh more than Wastel by v. s. (3) Bread made into a Simnel shall weigh ii s. less than Wastel ‹Because it is twice baked›[3]. (4) Bread ⟨of a farthing⟩[4] made of the whole Wheat shall weigh a Cocket and an half , [5]⟨so that a Cocket shall weigh more than a Wastel by v s.⟩ (5) Bread of Treet shall weigh ii Wastels. (6) And Bread of common Wheat shall weigh two [6]⟨great⟩ Cockets. (7) When a Quarter of Wheat is sold for xviii d. then Wastel Bread of a Farthing white and well baked shall weigh iv l. x s. viii d.
