And be it further enacted, That if any of the faid Searchers fo to be appointed by the Mayor, The Penalty fir being a Freeman of the faid City, or by the Mayor, Bailiff or other Head Officer of any City, Borough ' s ',' u '? 8 t0 bei or J own Corporate, as is aforefaid, having no reafonable Excufe, do refufe to take upon him to be a Searcher, and do not ufe the Office of a Searcher as is aforefaid, fhall forfeit and lofe for every fuch Re- fufal, and not executing of his Office fo to him appointed, five Pound ; the one Half thereof to be to the King our Sovereign Lord, and the other Half to the Ufe of the Commonalty of every City, Borough or 'I own Corporate where he fhall be fo affigncd, and to remain in Ward till fuch Time as he hath made Payment of the faid Forfeiture, or otherwife put in fufficient Bonds for the Satisfaction of the fame. ' XLVI. And forafmuch as there be now in this Time many falfe and dcceivablc Colours made in divers Jjjo <x>^ v '~A 1 Places of this Realm, whereby many of the King's loving Subjects are deceived;' be it enacted, That C ,J°* jfofebut from and after the faid Feaft of St. Michael the the Archangel next coming, no Perfon or Perfons fhall put thef/here to fale by Retail within this Realm any Cloth or Clothes which fhall be made after the laid Feaft, of any named, other Colour or Colours than is hereafter expreffed ; that is to fay, Scarlet, Red, Crimfon, Murry, Violet, Repealed by Puke, Brown-blue, Blacks, Greens, Yellows, Blues, Orange-tauny, Ruffet, Marble-gray, Sad new Co- ** J ac> '• c - 28, lour, Azure, Watchet, Sheeps-colour, Lion-colour, Motley or Iron-gray ; (2) upon Pain that every Per- *" "" fon offending to the contrary, fhall lofe and forfeit the Value of the Cloth fold by Retail, which fhail be of any other Colour. XLV1I. And be it further enacted, That no Perfon or Perfons after the faid Feaft of St. Michael the. Pre.lmg of Archangel fhall prefs any Kind of Cloth with the Hot Prefs, or in any other Kind of deceivable Manner, cl ° th . but only with the Cold Prefs, as is above fpecified, upon Pain of Forfeiture of the whole Cloth fo preffed contrary to the Meaning of this Statute, or the Value thereof. XLVIII. And be it further enacted, That if any Perfon or Perfons but fuch as are appointed, affigncd Counterfeiting', and permitted by this Act, do at any Time after the faid Feaft counterfeit, fet to or take away from, any of [ ett | n e to » er the Clothes, Kerfeys, Frizes, Ruggs or Cottons aforefaid, any of the Seals fo to be fixed as is above re- Sea , s De awa - y cited; that then every Perfon fo offending fhall for the firft Offence (being thereof duly convicted by Ver- dict of xii. Men, by two fufficient Witneffes, or by Confeffion of the Party) forfeit and lofe x.li. and for the fecond Offence (being likewife thereof convicted) fhall fit on the Pillory, and lofe and forfeit to our Sovereign Lord the King all fuch his Goods and Chattels (his Debts being duly and truly paid without Fraud or Covin) as he had or fhall have at the Time of his Conviction. XLIX. And be it further enacted, That if between the firft Day of May next coming and the Feaft of A Clothier (hail St. Michael the Archangel then next coming, any Perfon or Perfons which now doth ule the Art or My- n° a ^„^ fcioth ftery of Draping or Cloth-making, fhall give over Draping or Cloth-making, except he be licenced fo to witboutLiceoce. do by three Juftices of Peace at the leaft, of the City, County, Borough or Town Corporate where he dwelleth, upon fome reafonable Caufe fhewed unto the faid Juftices, fhall never after take upon him to make or caufe to be made any kind of Cloth or Kerfey to fell the fame again, upon Pain of Forfeiture of every fuch Cloth or Kerfey that he fhall fo fell. L. And be it further enacted, That all and every Article, Claufe or Sentence in any Act of Parliament A Repeal of alt heretofore made, concerning Making, Dying, Dreifing, Preffing, Searching or Scaling of any of the ""'"/y Statutei Kinds of Clothes, broad or narrow, white or coloured, Kerfies, Frizes, Rugs or Cottons, heretofore in Ma^ne 5 n* this Aft mentioned, and being repugnant or contrariant to any Article or Sentence in this Statute, fhall ao( j rj . from the Feaft of St. Michael the Archangel next be utterly void and of none Effect.
