An Aft for eftablilhing the Coronation Oath. •o W HE RE AS by the Law and ancient Ufage of this Realm, the Kings and Qiieens thereof have taken a folemn Oath upon the Evangelifts at their refpe<ftive Coronations, to maintain the Sta- tutes, Laws, and Cuftoms of the faid Realm, and all the People and Inhabitants thereof, in their Spiri- tual and Civil Rights and Properties : But forafmuch as the Oath itfelf on fuch Occafion adminiftred, hath heretofore been framed in doubtful Words and Expreflions, with relation to ancient Laws and Con- ftitutions at this Time unknown :' To the End therefore that one uniform Oath may be in all Times tc come taken by the Kings and Queens of this Realm, and to them refpeiStively adminiftred at the Times oi their and e.'ery of their Coronation: May it pleafe your Majefties that it may be enadled: An Oath to be II.
