C. 8. 227 for the Term of feven Years, to the Ufes hereafter mentioned ; and that, upon the faid Account there lliall be anfvvered to Scotland annually fiom the End of feven Years after the Union, an Equivalent in Proportion to fuch Part of the faid Increafe, as fhall be applicable to the Debts of England; and generally, that an Equivalent fliall be anfwered to Scotland for fuch Parts of the Englijh Debts, as Scotland may hereafter become liable to pay by reafon of the Union, other than fuch for which Appropriations have been made by Parliament in England, of the Cuftoms, or other Duties on Export and Import, Excifes on all excifeable Liquors, in refpeiSl of which Debts, Equivalents are herein before provided. And as ufes to wliidi for the Ufes to which the faid Sum of three hundred ninety-eight thoufand eighty-five Pounds ten Shil- Ei"ivjlent Mo- lings, to be granted as aforefaid, and all other Monies which are to be anfwered or allowed to Sc-Aland as "^^ '^ ^^'^ "^ ' aforefaid, are to be applied, it is agreed. That in the firft Place, out of the aforefaid Sum, what Confide- ration fhall be found necefiary to be had for any LofTes, which private Perfons may fuftain by reducing the Coin of Scotland to the Standard and Value of the Coin of England, may be made good ; in the next Coin of Scotland, Place, that the Capital Stock, or Fund of the Jfrican and Indian Company of Scotland advanced, toge- African Com- ther with Intereft for the faid Capital Stock, after the Rate of five per Centum per Ayinum, from the re- fpeftive Times of the Payment thereof, fhall be paid : Upon Payment of which Capital Stock and In- tereft, it is agreed, the faid Company be difTolved and ceafe, and alfo, that from the Time of pafTing the A£l of Parliament in England, for raifing the faid Sum of three hundred ninety-eight thoufand eighty- five Pounds ten Shillings, the faid Company fliall neither trade, nor grant Licence to trade ; providing, that if the faid Stock and Interefl fliall not be paid in twelve Rdonths after the Commencement of the Union, that then the faid Company may from thenceforward trade, or give licence to trade, until the faid whole Capital Stock and Intereft fhall be paid. And as to the Overplus of the faid Sum of three Overplus, hundred ninety-eight thoufand eighty-five Pounds ten Shillings, after Payment of what Confideration fhall be had for Loifes in repairing the Coin, and paying the faid Capital Stock and Interefl, and alfo the whole Increafe of the faid Revenues of Cufloms, Duties and Excifes, above the prefent Value, which fhall arife in Scotland during the faid Term of feven Years, together with the Equivalent which fhall be- come due upon the Improvement thereof in Scotland after the faid Term ; and alfo, as to all other Sums, which, according to the Agreements aforefaid, may become payable to Scotland by way of Equivalent, .for what that Kingdom fhall hereafter become liable towards Payment of the Debts of England; it is agreed. That the fame be applied in the Manner following, vi%. That all the publick Debts of the King- PuUick Debts. Aoxn oi Scotland, as fhall be adjufted by this prefent Parliament, fhall be paid : And that two thoufand Pounds per Annum for the Space of feven Years, fhall be applied towards encouraging and promoting the ManufaQure of Manufadture of coarfe Wool within thofe Shires which produce the Wool ; and that the firft two thou- coarfe Wool, fand Pounds Sterling be paid at Martinmas next, and fo yearly at Martinmas, during the Space aforefaid ; and afterwards, the fame fliall be wholly applied towards the encouraging and promoting the Fifheries, F'flieries. and fuch other Manuftiftures and Improvements in Scotland, as may moft conduce to the general Good ^" pf"" '• of the united Kingdom. And it is agreed. Scotland, upon the Agreements aforefaid, to the Purpofes before-mentioned : Which CommifKoners fhall Commiflloners be impowered to call for, receive, and difpofe of the faid Monies, in Manner aforefaid, and to infpeft f°'"" ^'5""^* the Books of the feveral Colle(5tors of the faid Revenues, and of all other Duties, from whence an Equi- '"'* valent may arife : And that the ColletStors and Managers of the faid Revenues and Duties be obliged to give to the faid CommiiSoners fubfcribed authentick Abbreviates of the Produce of fuch Revenues and Duties arifing in their refpe£tive Diftri<Sls: And that the faid Commiffioners fliall have their Office within the Limits of Scotland, and fhall in fuch Office keep Books containing Accounts of the Amount of the Equivalents, and how the fame fhall have been difpofed of from time to time, which may be infpe£ted by any of the Subjedts, who fhall defire the fame. ARTICLE XVI. That f[rom and after the Union, the Coin fhall be of the lame Standard and Value throughout the coin. united Kingdom, as now in England, and a Mint fliall be continued in Scotland, under the fame Rules as the Mint in England, and the prefent Officers of the Mint continued, fubjedt to fuch Regulations and Alterations as her Majefty, her Heirs or Succeflbrs, or the Parliament of Great Britain fhall think fit. • ARTICLE XVII. That from and after the Union, the fame Weights and Meafures fliall be ufed throughout the united W«ights and Kingdom, as are now eftabliflied in England, and Standards of Weights and Meafures fhall be kept by Meafures. thofe Burghs in Scotland, to whom the keeping the Standards of Weights and Meafures, now in Ufe there, does of fpecial Right belong: All which Standards fhall be fent down to fuch refpedtive Burghs, from the Standards kept in the Exchequer at Wejlminjhr^ fubje£l neverthelefs to fuch Regulations as the Parliament of Great Britain fhall think fit. ARTICLE XVIII. That the Laws concerning Regulation of Trade, Cuftoms, and fuch Excifes to which Scotland is, by Regulation of virtue of this Treaty, to be liable, be the fame in Scotland, from and after the Union, as in England; Trade, and that all other Laws in Ufe within the Kingdom of Scotland, do after the Union, and notwithftanding thereof, remain in the fame Force as before, (except fuch as are contrary to, or inconfiftent with this G g 2 Treaty)
