I. f that is to fay, From and after the faiJ fourteenth Day o^ May one thoufand feven hundred and fixteen, an 1 before the nine and twentieth Day of Scptmiber one thoufand feven hundred and fixteen, for all fuoh Sorts of Coals and Culm as are ufually fold by the Chalder, for every Chalder thereof, containing thirty-fix Bufhels JVincheJlr Meafure, the Sum of two Shilling.s; and for fuch Sort of Coals as are fold by the 'I'uji, for eve- ry Tun thereof, containing twenty hundred Weight, the Sum of two Shillings ; and from and after the eight and and twentieth Day of September one thoufand feven hundred and fixteen, and before the eight and twentieth Day oi September one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-four, there fhall be paid for every fuch faid Chalder of Coals and Culm and Tun of Coals, the Sum of three Shillings; which faid Simi of two Shillings for the firft Part of the faid Term, and three Shillings for the Remainder thereof, for every Cnal- der of Coals and Culm and Tun of Coals, (hall, from time to time, during the full Term firfl: before men- tioned, be raifed, levied, collected, and paid to her Majefty, her Heirs and Succeflbrs, in the fame Man- ner, Method, and Form, and at fuch Places, and by fuch Rules, Ways, and Means, and under fuch Pe- nalties and Forfeitures, as are mentioned, exprefTed, or referred unto, in and by any Aft, Law, or Statute, Afts, Laws, or Statutes now in Force for raifing, levying, collefting, or anfwering any other Duty cr Duties now payable to her Majefty for or upon upon any Coals or Culm whatfoever imported or brought Coaftwife into the faid Port of London; and that all and every the Powers, Authorities, Penalties, Forfei- tures, Difabilities, Articles, Rules, and Claufes, in the fame Afts, Laws, and Statutes, or any of them, ^mentioned or contained (except fuch and fo much of them for and concerning which it is otherwife pro- vided in this prefent KSt) fhall be of fuch Force and EfFedt, to all Intents and Purpofes, for the raifing, le- vying, collecting, and anfwering the Impofitions hereby granted, for and during the faid Term and 'i'erms herein before limited, as if the fame were particularly and at large fet down and enabled by this Act. IL And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid. That all and every fuch Sum and S.ims of Mo- ney, which fliall be raifed, collected, and levied, by Virtue of this Aft (the necefiary Charges of raifing, managing, and accounting for the fame always excepted) fhall, from time to time, be brought and paid into the Receipt of Exchequer, and by Force and Virtue of this A61, are and ftiall be appropriated, iffued, applied, and difpofed, for the Building of fifty New Churches of Stone and other proper fidaterials, with Towers or Steeples to each of them; and for purchafing of Sites of Churches and Church-yards, and Burying-places, in or near the Cities of London and [Vejlimnjier, or the Suburbs thereof; and for making fuch i Chapels Churches as are already built, and capable thereof, Parifh Churches, and for purchafing Houfes for the Habitations of the.Minifters of the faid Churches, and for applying the Sum of four thoufand Pounds per Annum out of the faid Duties and Impofitions, towards the repairing and finifhing the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter JFeJhnhifter, and the Chapels of the fame; and alfo for applying the Sum of fix thoufand Pounds per Annum out of the faid Duties and Impofitions arifing by this A£t, towards the finifhing Green- wich Hofpital, and the Chapel thereunto belonging, and to or for none other Ule, Intent, or Purpole what- foever. III. And it is hereby declared and enabled by the Authority aforefaid. That there fhall be erefted and built, of Stone and other proper Materials, fifty Churches, with Tov/ers or Steeples to each of them, whereof one (hall be ere6ted in the Parifli of Ea/i Greenwieii in the County of Kent. > ' IV. And whereas in feveral Parifhes in or near the faid Cities of London and Wejlminjier^ or the Suburbs ' thereof, there are forae Chapels erected by well -difpofed Perfons at their own Charge, for the publick ' Worfnip of God, as eftablifhed in the Church of England, which are fit to b« converted into Parifli ' Churches, and to have Diftrifts or Bounds of Parifhes allotted and affigned to each of them ; but feve- ' ral of them being built upon Terms for Years, under certain Ground Rents, and therefore are not con- '. frcrated, and there being feveral Deficiencies in their Conftitutions, which are neceflary in a Parifh ' Church ;' Be it therefore declared and cnafted by the Authority aforefaid, That fuch of the faid Chapels as are fit or proper, may be made Parifh Churches. V. Ajid to the end the faid New Churches, fo to be ereifted, may be more conveniently fituated, and ^ the faid Chapels, that are fit forP.irifh Churches, may be accommodated and provided with all Things ne- ceiTary for thole refiding in the faid Parifhes, whoftand moft in need thereof;. Be it ena:ted by the Autho- rity aforefaid, That it fhall and may be lawful to and for her Majefty, by Letters Patents, under the Great Seal of Great Britain, to nominate, conftitute, and appoint fuch Perlons as her A-Iajefty fhall think fit to be Commiffioners for ihe Purpofes herein after mentioned ; which faid Commiffioners, or fuch or fo many of them as fhall, by the faid v^om.miffion, be authorized, fhall, within twenty Days after they fhall be fo conftituted, as afoiefaid, meet, and fo, from time to time, as often as there fnall be Occafion, with or without Adjournments, and fhall enquire and inform themielves in what Parifhes the faid New Churches," (except that for Greenwich, are moft neceffary to be built, and of proper Places for the Sites of the faid refpec- tive New Churches, and alfo a Cemetery, or Church-yard, for each of the faid Churches, for the Burial of Chriftian People, to be purchafed ; and alfo which of the faid Chapels are fit to be made Parifh Churches; and fhall afcertain the feveral Houfes, Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, and the Bounds and Li- mits which in their Judgment or Opinion may be fit to be made diftinft Parifties, and to enquire and in- form themfelves by the beft Means they can, of the Value of fuch Houfes, Lands, Tenements, and Here- ditaments, and of the refpeiStive Eftates and Interefts therein, which the faid Commiffioners, or fuch or fo many of them as fhall be authorized, as aforefaid, fliall think neceflary to be purchafed for the faid Sites and Cemeteries, and for Houfes for the Habitations of the refpeitive Miniiters ; and the faid Com- miffioners, or fuch or fo many of them as fhall be authorized, as , aforefaid, fhall, on or before the four' and twentieth Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and eleven, report or certify to her Majefty in Writing, under their Hands and Seals, fuch Matters and Things as fhall appear to them, upon their Inqui- ries aforefaid, with their Opinions thereupon, and prefent a Duplicate of fuch Report or Certificate to each of the two Houfes of Parliament, to the end fuch further Dire(ftions may be given thereupon, as may be ■ purfuant to her Majcfty's pious intentions in the Premiffes. - VI.
