  • k T7[ZH-ERE AS it is not reafonable that the Sheriffs of this Kingdom, who are obliged to take-

W upon them that troublefome and expenfive Office for the Service of their Country, fhould 4 pay thofe large Fees that are demanded of them, and of Right belong to the Officers and Clerks of ' the Chancery, Exchequer and Pipe, for paffing their Patents and Accounts and obtaining their Quietus's: 'And whereas it would be unreafonable to take their due Fees from the Officers and Clerks, or to expect ' that they fhould do the Duty of their refpective Offices without a reafonable Reward for their Labour : ' And whereas the whole Expence of paffing the Patents and the Accounts of the feveral Sheriffs herein ' -after mentioned amounts to four thoufand Pounds :' Therefore, to the End that the Sheriffs may be eafed and JufHce done to the faid Officers and Clerks, Be it enaclred by the King's moft Excellent Ml jelly, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and of the Commons, in this pre- fent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and after the the twenty-ninth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and feventeen the yearly Sum of four thoufand Pounds fhall be fet apart at the Receipt of the Exchequer, out of fuch Fund as by any AcT: of this Seffion of Parliament fhall be charged with the faid yearly Sum, and in fuch manner as fhall be. thereby appointed, for the Ufes and Purpofes hereafter mentioned. II. And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That there fhall be yearly and every Year paid- out of the Monies which fhall, from Time to Time, be fo fet apart, upon the firft Day of Michaelmas- term, to the feveral Sheriffs for the Time being, of the feveral Counties herein after mentioned, the feve- ral and refpeiSlive Sums herein after expn ffed, to enable them refpeclively to bear the Expences of the re- fpecfive Letters Patents for their Offices, and to pafs their refpeclive Accounts, and to obtain their refpec- tive Quietus's : The faid yearly Sums to be received without any Account or Imprell whatfoever to be fet upon them, or any of them, and without paying any Fees or Charges for the fame, or any Part thereof: That is to fay, 1 TO
