' tend : And whereas notwithftanding the Provifion made by the faid Act, many Difputes have arilcn ' thereupon, and many Frauds and Abufes have fince been committed by Perfons employed in working ' and making of Serges, and in felling and difpofing of the fame, to the great Prejudice of Trade and ' Commerce :' For preventing whereof, and the better regulating the Manufactures of Serges' for the fu- ture ; Be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by the Autho- rity of the fame, That from and after the twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundredand After 24 June twenty-four, every Piece of Rock Serge made in Scotland, and white out of the Loom, (hail be of the gj^ - ^ ^ rd Breadth and Length herein after mentioned ; that is to fay, Thirty-fix Inches in Breadth at baft within L,' ngt h Sj J na the Lift or Selvage, and fixty-three Yards in Length ; and that every Half-Piece of fuch Serge fhajl be Fmene^'of Rock proportionable in Length to a whole Piece as aforefaid ; and that all fuch Pieces and Half-Pieces of Serge Serge made in fnall be taken up in Folds, or a foft Roll, and fhall not be ftretched by hard Rolling; and no white Scotland, afar- broomed or tarred Wool fhall be wrought or mixed together, but that each Piece {hall be wrought up u ' nM - of one and the fame Sort, without any other kind of Mixture whatfoever ; and that the fame fliall be S .f f 2 . equally
