An Act for repairing and widening the Read from the Town of Rochdale in the County Palatine of Lan~ cajier, leading over a certain Craggy Mountain called Black/lone Edge, in the fame County, and from thence to the Towns of Halifax and Ealand in the County of York. P R. Certain Tolls are granted from 1 June 1735, for zi Years. CAP. VIII. An Act for enlarging the Term and Powers granted by an Act parted in the Seventh Year of the Reiga • of his late Majefty King Gegrge the Firft, for repairing the Road from Saint Giles's Pound to Kilbourn Bridge in the County of Middlefex, and for paving that Part of the Road, called Oxford Street. P R. The former Acl is farther continued for 21 Years, and to the End ef the next SeJJion. CAP. IX. An Act for continuing and making more effectual an Act puffed in the firft Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King Gegrge the Firft, intituled, An del for repairing the Highways through the Jeveral Parijha of Saint Michael, Saint Albain, Saint Peter, Shenley Ridge, and South Mims, in the Counties of Hertford and Middlefex ; and for continuing the Commiffioners authorized to put the faid Act in Execution. PR. The former Acl is continued for 21 Years, and to the End of the next SeJJion. Amended by 10 Geo. II. c. 24. and continued by 24, Geo. II. c. 10. CAP. X. An Ad for lengthening the Weft Pier of the Harbour of Whitby, in the County of York, and for improving the faid Harbour. P R. WHEREAS by an Acl of Parliament, made and pafled in the firft Year of the Reign of her late Majefty Queen Anne, intituled, An Acl for building and repairing the Piers of the Town and Port of Whitby in the County ef York, reciting, that the ancient Town of Whitby, in the North Ri- ding of the faid County, Time out of Mind, had had Piers which were then much ruined and dfecayed, for want of an Income for the Maintenance and Reparation thereof, to the great Prejudice of tiis Trade of the faid Town and County, and of the Trade and Navigation of this Kingdom in general ; and alfo reciting, that the Charge of rebuilding and keeping in repair the faid Piers was greater than the faid Town of Whitby of itlelf was able to bear; therefore, by the faid Act, feveral Duties and Sums of Money were granted and laid upon all Ships and Veffels, and upon certain Goods and Mer- chandizes, therein particularly mentioned, landed within the Haven or Piers of the faid Port of Whit- by, and fhipped off from Whitby aforefaid ; and alfo a Duty of one Earthing per Chalder, on all Coals leaded at Newcastle, Sunderland, Blyth, Scaton Sluice, Culler Coates (as therein is alfo mentioned) for the Term of nine Years, to commence from the firft Day of May one thoufand feven hundred and two, with fuch Provifions for the due accounting for, and applying of the faid Duties, and feveral other Powers, Matters and Things relating thereto, and for keeping clear the. laid Harbour, in the faid A(!t particularly mentioned and contained : And whereas by another Act of -Parliament, made and palled in the feventh Year of her faid Majefty 's Reign, the. faid recited Acl, and all the Powers, Matters and Claufes contained therein, and all the Duties and Sums of Money thereby granted and made payable, were continued and made payable, and to be in full Force and Virtue until the firft Day of May, which fhould be in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-three : And whereas by an- other Acl of Parliament, made in the feventh Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King George intituled, An Ait J or the better prefcrving end keeping in repair the Piers of the Town and Port of Whitby, in the County of York ; and for explaining and making more effectual the feveral Acls paffed for lengthening and repairing the Piers of Bridlington alias Burlington in the faid County, reciting amongft 'other Things, that by the faid feveral Duties and Sums of Monies already collected, and to be collected and received by virtue of the faid feveral Acts of Parliament, the faid Piers would probably be rebuilt, riniihed and compleated by the faid fiift Day of May one thou and feven hundred and twenty three: To the end that the fame, and alfo the faid Harbour, from after the Expiration of the Term granted by the faid lafr-mentioned Act, (hould be preferved, kept and coBtinued in good Repair, by the faid iaft in part- receitcd Acl of the feventh Year of the Reign of his faid late Majefty King G eorge, all and every the faid Duties and Sums of Money granted and impofed by the faid Act of the firft Year of her faid late Majefty, and continued by the (aid Act of the feventh Year of htr Reign, as aforefaid (fuve and except the faid Duty of one Farthing per Chalder) were made perpetual, and enacted to be paid to the Truftees therein named, and their bucceffors for ever, and feveral Powers, Claufes and Penalties are, by the faid Act of the feventh Year of his laid late Majefty, enacted and provided touching the Collection, accounting for, and Application of the feveral Duties thereby perpetuated : And whereas by and with the faid feveral Duties and Sums of Money collected and received by virtue of the faid feveral Acts of Parliament, the faid Piers have been rebuilt, (inilhed, and compleated, and have been preftrved, kept and continued in good Repair; but that neverthelefs, for fome Years pail, the Entrance into the faid Port of Whitby has been rendered very narrow and difficult, by reafon of a Bank of Sand, which is now, and for fome time paft has been, gathering about the Head of the Weft Pier of the faid Harbour of Whitby, and will in Time, if not prevented, intirely ftop and choak up the fame; and in-
