' quences of the exceflive Ufe of fuch Liquors are not confined to the prefent Generation, but extend
- to future Ages, and tend to the Devaftation and Ruin of this Kingdom:' For Remedy whereof may
it pleafe your mod Excellent Majefty that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's moft Ex- cellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Com mons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and after A{ter a 9 { E <£*• the twenty-ninth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and thirty-fix, toretaiediftiUed no Perfon or Perfons whatfoever (hall prefume, by him, her or themfelves, or by any other Perfon or Spirituous Li- Perfons whatfoever employed by him, her or them, or for his, her or their Benefit, to fell or retale any 2 uors of arr / Brandy, Rum, Arrack, Ufquebaugh, Geneva, Aqua Vita, or any other diftilled Spirituous Liquors, or ort ' Strong Waters, unmixed, or mixed with themfelves or any other Ingredients, and by whatfoever Name . __ or Names they are or may be called, publickly or privately, in any lefs Quantity than two Gallons, ^n VcaUons without firft taking out a Licence for that Purpofe, as is herein after directed, within ten Days at leaft before he, (he or they (hall fell, or offer to fell, or retale the fame, for which he, (he or they (hall im- mediately upon taking out thereof pay down for the fame the Sum of fifty Pounds in Manner follow- without pay ; nK ing ; that is to fay, If fuch Licence be taken out within the Limits of the Penny Poft, then the fame down 50 1. for 3 mail be paid at the Chief Office of Excife in London, or at any other Place, and to fuch Perfons as his Ma- Licence, at the jefty's Commiffioners for the Duties of Excife for the time being (hall appoint to receive the fame ; and Londoi^'inn " that fuch Perfons as by the faid Commiffioners (hall be appointed, are hereby impowered to deliver fuch the Limits of the Licences to any fuch Perfon or Perfons upon his, her or their paying down for the fame the aforefaid Penny Poft ; Sum of fifty Pounds at the Time of taking out thereof; but if fuch fuch Licence (hall be taken out if without thofe without the Limits aforefaid, then the fame (hall be paid by all and every the Perfons fo taking out fuch E^jfe'offlccT Licence at the Office of Excife next adjoining to the Place where he, (he or they refpectively refide or next adjoining inhabit, or at any other Place, and to fuch Perfons, as his Majefly's Commiffioners for the Duties of to the Perron's Excife for the time being (hall appoint to receive the fame ; and fuch Perfons as by the faid Commiffioners dence. f '" (hall be appointed, are hereby impowered to deliver fuch Licences to any fuch Perfon or Perfons, upon his, her or their paying down for the fame the aforefaid Sum of fifty Pounds at the Time of taking out thereof. II. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That every Perfon or Perfons, that (hall take ^paid^n"™-' out fuch Licence as aforefaid, is and are hereby required to take out a frefh Licence ten Days at leaft be- newingthe-Li- fore the Expiration of twelve Months after the taking out of the firft Licence, before he, fhe or they do cence every prefume or offer to fell any fuch Spirituous Liquors in any lefs Quantity than two Gallons, and in the ^ t f or e the'E'x- fame Manner to renew fuch Licence from Year to Year, paying down the like Sum of fifty Pounds for piration of the each and every new or renewed Licence, at the Places, and at the Times before-mentioned ; and if any old one.
