' cenfing the Retalers thereof; and alfo by an Act made in the tenth Year of his faid Majefty's Reign, for IO Geo.i. iqs ' explaining and enforcing the Execution of the faid firft-mentioned Act ; the drinking of Spirituous ' Liquors is yet too common, efpecially among Perfons of low Rank : And whereas fuch Perfons as fell ' or expofe to fale any Spirituous Liquors or Strong Waters unmixed, or mixed with themfelves,_or any ' other Ingredients, contrary to the faid Act, For laying a Duty upon the Retakrs of Spirituous Liquors,

  • and for Heenfinj, the Retalers thereof, are chiefly Perfons of little or no Subrtance : And whereas, in order

' to elude the faid firft-mentioned A(t, by preventing the Difcovery of the Offenders againft the fame, ' and thereby evading the Penalty to be inflicted on fuch Offenders, feveral Perfons in a clandeftine Man- ' ner retale fuch Spirituous Liquors or fome of them without any Licence, or in fome PJace or Places ' not in the faid Act mentioned or allowed, and the Perfon or Perfons fo felling the fame are not feen, but ' are hid behind fome Wainfcot, Curtain, Partition, or are otherwife ccncealed :' For Remedy where- of, be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament ailembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That fr»m and after the twenty-fourth Day of June in the Year one thoufarad levgn hundred occupiers of and thirty-eight, if any lefs Quantity or Quantities tly.iri two Gallons of Spirituous Liquors, or Strong Hquiej v &c.
