And to prevent any Lofs or Damage that may happen by the Lofs or Imbczilmcnt of any Rate or Affeffment to be made purfuant to this Act, Be it further ena&ed, That when and fo foon as any a Duplicate of Afleflment fhall be made as aforefaid, or within ten Days, a Duplicate thereof, figncd and fubferibed by all AirdTroenti the feveral Perfons who figned and fubferibed the faid Rate or Afleflment, fhall, by the Bedel of every tr > bc lett with Ward, be carried to and left with the Chamberlain of the City of London, and in Default thereof, the lhct ' hamtc ' 1;l ' n «  Chamberlain fhall not pay any Money which fhall be drawn on him by the Alderman or his Deputy, and Common Council, or the major Part of them, of the faid Ward wherein fuch Duplicate fhall not be delivered and left with him as aforefaid, without the fpecial Order of the Court of Lord Mayor and Alder- men of the faid City, authorizing and directing him to pay the fame. ' XXVIII. And whereas feveral evil-difpofed Perfons have broken, and may wilfully and malicioufly ' break and deftroy the Lamps hung out in the Streets of this City ;' Now to prevent the like malicious Practices for the future, Be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That if any Perfon or Perfons Penalty forw'l- fhall, from and after the twenty-fifth Day of May one thoufand feven hundred and forty-four, wilfully {M Y braking or malicioufly break, throw down, or extinguifh any Lamp that now is, or fhall be hung out, or fet up the ^""P*' to light the Streets, or wilfully damage the Pofts, Irons, or other Furniture thereof, every Perfon fo of- fending therein, and being thereof convicted by the Oath of one or more Witnefs or Witneffes, before any one or more of his Majefty's Juftices of the Peace for the City of London, fhall for the firft Offence forfeit the Sum of forty Shillings for each Lamp fo broken, thrown down, extinguished, or otherwife da- maged, and for the fecond Offence the Sum of fifty Shillings, and for the third Offence the Sum of three Pounds, to be recovered and levied in fuch Manner as in this A<El is mentioned. ' XXX. And whereas it is impoffible to afcertain the exact Expence which may accrue to the faid City ' of London, in providing, fupplying and maintaining fuch Lights as aforefaid, as well from the Altera-

XXXIII.
