And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That no Mafter Sail-maker, Journeyman Sail- maker or other Perfon whatfoever, ihall, after the twenty-fourth Day of June one thouland kvan ^""^ n* 1 ** hundred and forty-feve;i, alter, repair or mend any Sail or Sails made of foreign made Sail Cloth or damped not Canvas, not (lamped according to this A<'t ; and in cafe any Mafter or Journeyman Sail-maker, OF to be mended, other Perfon, (hall alter, repair or mend any Sail or Sails not (lamped as aforefaid, every fuch Mailer ftCi and Journeyman Sail-maker, or other Perfon, (hall, for every Sail fo altered, repaired or mended, for- feit the Sum of twenty Pounds. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty-fourth Day of "June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-fix, every Sail-maker in Great Britain, and from and after the twenty-ninth Day of December one thoufand kven hundred a. id forty-fix, every Sail-maker in his Majefty's Plantations in America (hall affix or imprefs, or caufe to be affixed or impreffed, on every new Sail by him fo made, a Stamp of eight Inches Diameter, containing the Name and Place New Sails to of Abode of fuch Sail-maker, in plain diftinct Letters and Words at Length ; and which (aid Stamp, Hf'M m £S w in order to make the Impreffion durable, (hall be dipped in a Liquor made with Lamp Black well Name, uc. mixed with Linfeed Oil well boiled ; and in cafe any Sail-maker or other Perfon (hall make any new Sail or Sails, and (hall deliver the fame to any Captain or Mafter of any Ship or Veffel, not being ftampt with his Name and Place of Abode as aforefaid, every fuch Sail (hall be forfeited, and every under For- Sail-maker or other Perfon (hall, for every Sail by him or them lb delivered, not (lamped as aforefaid, '""»- '- 1 1|! * forfeit the Sum of ten Pounds. ^ " r "' ,o1 ' ' XL And whereas Doubts have arifen about the Meaning of a Claufe in the faid Act of the ninth
- Year of his prefent Majefty's Reign, by which Ships or VeiTels are obliged, at their rirll fetting out,
' or being firft navigated at Sea, to be furnilhed with one full and complete Set of Sails made of Sail ' Cloth manufactured in Great Britain :' To obviate fuch Doubts for the future, be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred ships new bui)t and forty-fix, every Ship or Veffel which (hall be built in Great Britain, and from and after the in Great Britain twenty-ninth Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and forty-fix, every Ship or VelTel which ol " Amellca > (hall be built in his Majefty's Plantations in America, (hall, upon her firft fetting out, or being firft navigated, have or be furnilhed with one full and compleat Set of new Sails {bona fide, belonging to on firft fetting fuch Ship or VelTel) made of Sail Cloth manufactured in Great Britain ; and in cafe fuch Ship or VelTel ou J> ,0 beftu- fhall not, on her firft fetting out, be fitted or furnilhed with a new Set of Sails, properly belonging to setof new * fuch Ship or Veffel, made of Sail Cloth of the Manufacture of Great Britain as aforefaid ; that then, Sails, mainl- and for every fuch Neglect or Default, the Mafter of fuch Ship or Veffel (hall forfeit the Sum of fifty ^ £lure <| ! n . •q 1 ' ° ' r ' Great Britain, Pounds. ; _ _ Penalty 50I. XII. And it is hereby further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the feveral pecuniary Penalties and Forfeitures herein before impofed on Perfons offending againft this Act (not otherwife directed and Jifbe'rccovered applied) ihall and may be recovered by Action of Debt, Bill, Plaint or Information, in any of his Ma- jefty's Courts of Record in Great Britain, or in fuch of his Majefty's Plantations wherein fuch Offence (hall be committed ; in which Suit no Effoin, Protection, Wager of Law, or more than one Impar- lance (hall be allowed ; which laid Forfeitures (hall be applied, one Moiety thereof to his Majefty, ant j difpofed. his Heirs and Succeffors, and the other Moiety thereof to the Perfon or Perfons who fliall fue for the fame. XIII. WHEREAS by an Act made and paffed in. the laft SelTion of Parliament, intituled, An Act to%G&>.z explain and amend the Laws, touching the Elections of Knights of the Shire fo ferve in Parliament for ' that Part of Great Britain called England, feveral good Proviiions were enacted for the better regulating 'the faid Elections: And whereas it is reafonable, that like Proviiions (hould be made for the due ' Election of Members to ferve in Parliament, for fuch Cities and Towns in ihat of Great Britain
