Perfons. ' 'T7'HEREAS an Act of Parliament was made and paffed in the eighth Year of the Reign of 8 Ann, c iS, " W her late Majefty Queen Anne, intituled, An Acl to regulate the Price and Ajjize of Bread, and
- ' the fame was to continue in Force for three Years, and from thence to the End ot the then next Sef-
- ' fion of Parliament : And whereas the faid Act, having been by fubfequent Acts further continued,
' was found very ufeful and beneficial, but the fame is now near expiring;' May it therefore pleafe your Majefty that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament afiembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the faid Act, together with fuch Alterations as were continued to 25 made thereto, in and by an Act paffed in the firft Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King George ^Geo^stafa' the Firft, intituled, An Acl for continuing feveral Laws therein mentioned relating to Coals, Hemp and Flax, c . 26. And whereas the Court of Lord Mayor and Aldermen of the City of London, and fome other ' Magiftrates, have thought fit, in letting the Affize of Bread, to fet down and afcertain the Price for 'which the Peck, Half-Peck and Quartern Loaves ought to be fold; which Prices the Bakers have ' fometimes complied with, but at other times have refufed fo to do, to the Deceit and Oppreffion of his '* Majefty's Subjects, efpecially of the poorer fort of People : And whereas fome Doubts have arifen ' touching the Penalty they have incurred for fuch their Refufal,' For Remedy whereof be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the twenty- fourth Day of June in the Year of our Lord one Penalty onEaker thoufand feven hundred and thirty, if any Baker or other Perfon or Perfons baking or making Bread for ^ti'Ac/prtce ' Sale, or expofing Bread to Sale, fhall fell any Peck, Half-Peck or Quartern Loaf or Loaves at any than fet by the greater or higher Price than fhall be fet and afcertained by the faid Court of Lord Mayor and Alder- Lord Mayor, &c- men, or by the Lord Mayor of the faid City for the Time being, by Order of the faid Court, or by the Mayor, Bailiffs, Aldermen or chief Magistrates for the Time being of any other City, Town Corporate or Borough, or by any Two or more Juftices of the Peace in fuch Towns and Places where there fhall be no fuch Mayor, Bailiffs, Aldermen or chief Magifcrates, he, (he or they fo doing, being thereof lawfully convicted, fhall for every fuch Offence forfeit the Sum of ten Shillings ; the faid For- feiture or Forfeitures to be given to the Informer or Informers, and to be adjudged, levied and recovered ' in fuch Manner, as the Penalty of forty Shillings is by the faid Act of the eighth Year of her faid lase 8 Ann. c. iS. Majefty's Reign to beadjudged, levied and recovered. III. Provided always, That before any Reduction is made in the Affize of Bread by the Court of Before Reduc- Lord Mayor and Aldermen, a Copy of the Prices delivered in by the Meal Weighess for the faid-City for ^ gJea'da'c'cpy the Time being lhall be left at the common Hall of the Bakers Company by the Space of twelve Hours to be left at before any fuch Reduction, to the Intent that the faid.
