Payment of Sea?neTis Wages for the flat. 2. c. 9. future ; and for appropriating the SiippUcs granted in this prefent Sejfton of Parliament ; and for difpofing of the Surplus of the Money grayited for Half Pay., for the Tear one thoufand feven hundred a7id twenty -Jeven ; and by another Aft alfo made in the firfl: Year of the Reign of his prefent Majefry, intituled, An Aa for en- ^^ ^ ^^ ^^ ■ couroging Seamen to enter into his Mfejlys Service ; feveral Provifions and Regulations were enacted and pre- (., j^, fcribed, for the Benefit and Encouragement of the Seamen employed in the Royal Navy, and for prevent- ing Frauds and Abufes in pnrchafing of their Wages or Pay ; which Provisions and Regulations, frpm various Difficulties in carrying the fame into Execution, have been found, in a great Mcafure, ineffec- tual to anfwer the Purpofes thereby intended : And whereas the eilablilhing a regular Method for the punctual, frequent and certain Payment of the Wages or Pay due to inferior OiTicers and Seamen em- ployed in the Royal Navy; the enabling fuch Officers and Seamen more eafily and readily to obtain fuch Payments, and to allot and remit any Part thereof, for the Support and Pvelief of their Wives and Fami- lies ; and the preventing, as far as may be, the Unwary, tlie Ignoriint or the Neceffitous, fi-om being de- frauded and injured by the Extortion and Ufury of wicked and cvil-defigning Perfons, are of the utmoll Confequence to the Publick Service;' Therefore, for cffedluating thefe important and compaffionate Pur- lofes, Be it enaded by the King's moft Excellent Mnjefly, by and v/ith the Advice and Confent of the Volunteer Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, ?>nd by the Authority tj°in"g""I'Nri^ jf the fame, That from and after the firft Day oi November one thoufand feven hundred and fifty-eight,_ if with a proper my Seaman or Able-bodied lyandman, fhall freely and voluntarily ccme before and enter his Name with Officer, my Commiffion Officer or Officers of the FJeet, to be appointed for entering fuch Volunteers, in order to ^nd recriving jerve in, or on Board any of the Ships or Veflels of his Majefty, his Heirs or SuccefTors, then fitting out ^j^^^"^'^*^"'^ for Sea, or that (hall be in Want of Men, and fhall receive a Certificate of his fo doing from fuch Com- an"appearing iniffion Officer or Officers (who is or are hereby direfted and required to make out and give fuch Certifi- within a limit- cates, without Fee or Reward, and duly to date the fame) and if fuch Perfon (hall forthwith proceed to- ed Time on wards fuch Ship or Veffel, aiid fliall make his perfonal Appearance on Board the fame, within the Space of P""' .^^'^ ^ .ip fourteen Days from the Day of the Date of fuch Certificate, inclufive of the Day of the Date thereof, if |" j^^^^'^^^'^ '^
