D.1761. as the Comminioners for the Difcovery of the Longitude ftiould think necefTary, for making fur- ther Experiments : And whereas the laid CominilTioners have, by virtue of the Powers vefted in them by the faid feveral Ails before-mentioned, heard and received fcvcral Propofals made to them, at different Times, for difcovering the faid Longitude, and have accordingly certified the fame, from Time to Time, to the Commiffioners of the Navy for the Time being, whereupon Bills have been made out for feveral Sums of Money, amounting, in the Whole, to four thoufand Pounds ^ all which refpeitive Sums have been paid to feveral Perfons by the Treafurerof theNavy, purfuant to the Dire£lions of the faid A£ls of Parliament ; which the faid Commiffioners, for difcovering the Longitude, thought necefTary for making the laid Experiments : And whereas by reafon of tho feveral Payments made by the Treafurer of the Navy to the feveral Perfons as aforefaid, the faid Commiflioners have, by virtue of the faid Ads of Parliament, expended the Whole of the Sums thereby granted for the Purpofes aforefaid : And whereas, from the Experiments which have already been made in purfuance of the Powers vefted in the faid Commiffioners as aforefaid, there is great Reafon to expe<5t that, by continuing to encourage ingenious Perfons to invent and make further Improvements and Experiments, in order to difcover the faid Longitude, fuch Difcoveries may at; length be produced as will efFe6f ually anfwer that End, and thereby contribute very much to the Advantage of the Trade and Honour of this Kingdom :' Therefore, for enabling the faid Com- -"ropo- . ... , , fals for difcovering the the Authority of the fame.
