Paturkar, Ravi Prakash Dani and Balasaheb Deshmukh, Varsha and Priyanka Kale. Special thanks are also due to the following for their help by way of personal interviews and clippings and also for their generous hospitality: Bhupinder Singh Mann of Batala, Punjab, Madhu Kishwar of New Delhi, Subhash Joshi of Nipani, Karnataka, Hemant Kumar Panchal of Bangalore, Karnataka, Saheb Lal Shukla of Banda, Uttar Pradesh and Parimal Desai of Surat, Gujarat. Much appreciated was the input given by Sharad Joshi’s elder daughter Shreya Shahane during our two sessions. I am especially grateful to Tony Der Hovesepian of Bern, Switzerland, who was the neighbour and office colleague of Joshi during his eight years at Universal Postal Union in Switzerland. He took me to see Joshi’s office and also his home apart from sharing generously from his memories. He also checked and rechecked my notes. Without his input the entire chapter on Joshi’s years in Switzerland could not have been written; nothing was otherwise available about that period. While in Switzerland help from Moreshwar Sant of Geneva and Avinash Jagtap of Binningen was also valuable. Credit for many of the photographs in the book goes to Saroja Parulkar, whose (late) husband Vijay was a renowned cinematographer and took many of these pictures. They both had been close family friends of Joshi for many years. Most of the remaining photos were provided by Sureshchandra Mhatre from Central Office of Shetkari Sanghatana. Finally, I have to acknowledge Shetkari Sanghatana Trust for agreeing to publish this biography. I sincerely apologize if some names are inadvertently missing here. I remain grateful for their support as well. - Bhanu Kale Q
