It would not involve much of a change in the substance of liberalism; probably only a change in style and language.’ SBP was also a part of Joshi’s search for new ways; though in the realm of politics. It provided some activity for the loyal workers of SS who were disillusioned with all political parties and did not wish to be associated with any. But SBP was not a party of the farmers, nor was it the extension of SS; it was for the entire nation. Here, Joshi had attempted to move beyond the farmers’ cause; which probably was his personal need as well at that time. SBP obviously did not have any political significance. Its contribution to the political process was in the basic tenets it upheld. Perhaps a day might come when these tenets become contemporary and inevitable. In that case one can only say that what SBP stood for was not incorrect but before its time. One observation might be mentioned at the end which showed the kind of respect Joshi had for Rajaji, the best of the liberals and the founder of Swatantra Party. In his bedroom at Ambethan house there was only one picture adorning the wall and that was the picture of Rajaji. Q
