- Large semicircular desk, made of a counter filled in to the floor to look as if made of old planking. On it: Telephone L. end, plenty of ledgers, letters, papers, drawings, charts, writing materials, card and pencil. Small gong and beater R. end, also speaking tube, push button, and lamp with blue-green shade. In addition to this lamp, lamps are sunk into the counter to shine on Moriarty's face—these being hidden from the audience. On a shelf under the counter is a revolver.

- Solid large door. This door has various mechanical devices for bolting, opening and closing to operate as necessary.
- A small opening in the wall, backed by masonry.
- An archway, planked up solid—the planks dark and grimy. Maps and charts tacked to the planking as high as one can reach.
- Dark stone corridor basement backing.
- Rug.
- On the wall running at the back of the stage are hung calendars and maps, charts and plans of tunnels. On this wall are also lever bolts and iron cranks leading to the door. Bill files hang from the wall L., and some railway guides, etc.
- Large ledgers are on the floor in front of the desk.
ELECTRIC PLOT.
Steel blue border full up. White border quarter up. Lamp on counter with green shade. Three electric lamps sunk into counter to shine on Moriarty's face (not seen by audience). No footlights in this scene. Telephones on wall up C. with connexions running to outside door C. Buzzer. Telephone bell and muffled bell to be on this connexion, and placed within box of telephone.
Note.—At (illegible text) as in Act I. and gradual fading away to (illegible text). Get ready for dark changes.
When black drop is down, switch blue pilot light on in border for men to see for change of scene.
